Blue Dream

To roughly quote iconic reggae legend Bob Marley: “One good thing about Blue Dream…when it hits you feel no pain”. The Blue Dream strain is an ever-popular staple on both the medical and recreational cannabis markets.  Touted by medical users as an effective analgesic, Blue Dream is reputed for its energizing head buzz. Characteristically calming and euphoric, this strain’s significant THC content produces a dreamy high, renowned for inspiring creativity.

Blue Dream Strain Overview

Blue Dream is an energizing sativa-dominant hybrid, offering full-body relaxation with a cerebral high. At a typical ratio of about 60:40 sativa to indica, its uplifting and motivating sativa qualities are followed by an appetite-stimulating, relaxing indica body buzz with a sleepy finish. A cross between Blueberry F5 and Santa Cruz Haze, the strain’s origins can be traced back to Northern California, where it is purported that DJ Short elevated this strain of cannabis to legendary status. DJ Short’s version is also known as “Azure Haze”.

This strain’s long and bushy buds present as olive green, similar to the color of sage. Depending on the variety, purplish hues may be observed amongst the rust-colored pistils, heavily coated with sparkly white trichomes. This herb smells distinctly like berries, with an earthy sandalwood undertone. Flavourful and well-balanced, the taste is consistently blueberry with a lavender finish, due to the presence of the terpene linalool.

High Expectations

At the peak of its popularity, High Times Magazine called the Blue Dream strain “the most popular strain of legal weed” in 2016.

Best In Show

Mimicking its performance in Washington State, the Blue Dream strain was the number one bestseller in Colorado’s world-famous cannabis market back in 2015.

Mixtape Debut

American hip-hop artist Juicy J named his ever-popular 2011 mixtape “Blue Dream & Lean”, further promoting this strain’s popularity within cannabis culture.

Dreamy Facts

Given the strain’s soaring popularity in the first part of the 21st century, it is postulated that the singular reason that Blue Dream’s popularity wained was because cannaisseurs became “too familiar” with a buzz that became “too predictable”! Fortunately, there are several phenotypes of this strain available on the market.

Blue Dream Effects

Blue Dream’s cerebral rush offers a creative mood boost, which can work well for calming anxiety, combatting fatigue, and treating depression. However, inexperienced users should always proceed with caution since THC is notorious for having the opposite effect by increasing anxiety at higher doses. This strain may not be ideal for insomniacs, due to its invigorating sativa qualities. A staple at medicinal cannabis dispensaries, patients report treating ailments from nausea to headaches with this strain. Given its significant caryophyllene content, the Blue Dream weed strain possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great herb for pain relief.

Growing Blue Dream

The Blue Dream strain is a heavy water consumer that will flourish in or out of doors. This cultivar produces an above-average yield with dense, voluminous buds. Blue Dream may be a good strain for novice growers since it tends to be mold resistant.

Grow Tip

Several growers suggest adding plenty of nitrogen and magnesium-rich fertilizers to produce an optimum yield.

“Two pounds per 1000-watt light is a fairly standard indoor harvest for Blue Dream…“
