Mendo Breath

Mendo Breath came by its name from a small oceanside California artist colony called Mendocino. Understated and charming like the place of its namesake, this eclectic indica dominant hybrid will propel you into a slow-moving and imperturbable mindset resembling a sleepy beach on the Pacific Ocean. Known for its aromatic caramel and vanilla flavors akin to something found in a candy shop, this strain provides anything but a soft and sweet high. This bedtime, end-of-day strain if there ever was one. With THC levels hovering around 20%, its deep green buds are laden with orange strands and green-frosty trichomes give it an inviting appearance to match its sweet taste and smell.

Mendo Breath Overview

Mendo Breath is an indica dominant, clone-only hybrid strain. That means that if you want to grow this cannabis strain, you must obtain a clipping from a mature plant as no seeds are commercially available. Originally bred in 2010 by California-based Gage Green Genetics, this strain is a cross of OG Kush Breath and Mendo Montage. Users of Mendo Breath tend to experience an uplifted feeling almost immediately upon inhalation. This heady rush is soon replaced by a heavy and soothing body high. If any indica strain out there will leave users “in da couch”, Mendo Breath is a strong candidate. As the high carries on, users may become very sleepy and have trouble focusing. Medicinally, Mendo Breath’s sedative properties may aid people who suffer from insomnia, chronic pain, muscle spasms, and migraines. With its concurrent ability to increase mood, users often report using this strain for depression and other mood disorders.

Pandemic Pot

In September 2020, LA Weekly ranked Mendo Breath among the top six cannabis strains marking California’s six-month anniversary of lockdown measures due to COVID-19. According to the article, commercial buyers were struggling to obtain Mendo Breath for their dispensaries due to such high demand in the state.

Deli Fresh Breath

Jay-Z’s cannabis brand of choice, Caliva, of which he is the chief brand strategist, opened a dispensary in southern California called Deli in 2019. The name of the store is inspired by Caliva’s Deli cannabis line, and the theme mirrors an old-fashioned New York deli, complete with a mint green color palette, glass display cabinets, and counter stools for patrons. Mendo Breath is boasted as a premium bud and is part of Deli’s high-end cannabis collection.

Garden Salad

A “weed salad” involves combining different cannabis strains in the same bowl or joint so they can be consumed simultaneously. According to Leafly, weed salads are often called Mendo Blendo. It has a nice ring to it, right?

High-press Hill

Hip-Hop behemoths Cypress Hill launched their very own cannabis line in 2018 called Cypress Hill Bhang alongside their studio album Elephants on Acid. One of their featured products is a cassette tape stash box containing 6 pre-rolled Mendo Breath joints.

Mendo Breath Effects

Mendo Breath’s candy-like aroma may initially act as an inviting “breath” of fresh air, but be warned, this strain is potent. At the onset, users will enjoy an uplifting feeling of euphoria, often described as pleasant and tingly. This rapidly transitions into an intense body high that often leaves them feeling “couch-locked” and lethargic. Due to its high THC content and heavy indica effects, Mendo Breath has become a popular medicinal alternative for a variety of ailments. The Mendo Breath strain may be effective for chronic pain relief associated with conditions such as arthritis, and muscular pain. Its uplifting and euphoric effects may also provide short-term relief from mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. Furthermore, this strain might be considered an effective treatment for people suffering from insomnia.

Its indica genetics have the potential to deeply relax the body and mind, allowing people to fall into a restful slumber. It is important to note here the possible negative side-effects associated with Mendo Breath use. Its potent THC content and strong indica effects sometimes prove to be overwhelming and cause headaches for novice cannabis users. Another well-known side effect of this strain is the foreboding “couch-lock” effect which may leave you too inebriated to function normally. Most Mendo Breath strain consumers recommend consuming this strain in the evening so that pre-sleep relaxation can be obtained without infringing on daily activity. Mendo Breath’s common and less intense side effects include dry mouth. As is the case with most strains, have a bottle of water nearby when consuming!

Growing Mendo Breath

As mentioned earlier in this article, Mendo Breath is a clone-only strain. This means that Mendo Breath seeds are currently not in circulation and obtaining clippings from a mature plant may prove to be difficult. If you do come across Mendo Breath clippings, it is reportedly a relatively easy strain to grow. It can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors but thrives in an arid, sunny climate analogous to California. To maximize this strain’s flavor and aroma profiles, it is pertinent to enhance its terpene content when growing. In order to do this, the plant should be provided with essential macronutrients during different stages of growth. In the vegetative stage, the plant requires high levels of nitrogen followed by high levels of phosphorus and potassium in the flowering stage. Mendo Breath plants typically reach a medium height and boast compact buds. The flowering period is between 7-9 weeks with October being the prime month for outdoor harvest.

“Growers have their main phenotypes, and Mendo breath is one out of five of them.“

Micheal, Green Gage Genetics
