Wedding Cake

Known as “Pink Cookies” in Canada, Wedding Cake induces a happy sense of euphoria, combined with waves of relaxation. Novice users may want to proceed with caution since its significant THC content can produce a potent high. The strong body buzz doesn’t seem to impair mental alertness and creativity up to a point, at which insomniacs may fall into a peaceful sleep. This indica-leaning hybrid is deeply relaxing, which may precede “couch-lock”, followed by the munchies. The benefit of this strain, compared to other indica-type cultivars is that it promotes clear-headedness, which helps users maintain a creative focus.

Wedding Cake Overview

Bred by Seed Junky Genetics, Wedding Cake’s dense, tight and sticky, indica-style greenish-brown buds pack a pungent earthy punch. It has a pleasant vanilla scent with a hint of pepper and citrus. Wedding Cake’s THC content typically exceeds 22%. With its dense smoke, this indica-leaning hybrid is renowned for its high THC content, producing euphoric relaxation. This bud combines the energizing head high of a sativa with the sedating body stone of an indica. For some, Wedding Cake offers the best of both worlds.

After winning Best Hybrid” at the High Times’ 2018 SoCal Cannabis Cup, this potent strain was named Leafly Strain of the Year” in 2019.

Wedding Cake In Pop Culture

The internet is rife with misinformation that confuses “Wedding Cake” with “Birthday Cake”, using the names interchangeably. While these hybrids are similar in effect, they are not the same. By crossbreeding Animal Mints with Triangle Kush, “Wedding Cake”, as it came to be known, was originally called “Triangle Mints”, while Birthday Cake is a cross between Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies. Whatever the occasion, this strain is sure to knock your socks off!

Why is it called “Wedding Cake”? Let’s explore the origin behind the name. Some descriptors used to describe this strain’s flavor are “subtle creamy mouthfeel” and “sweet aftertaste”. Its thick coat of trichomes “make it look like it’s been dipped in frosting.” Or perhaps it’s because of the “vanilla cake frosting aroma”? Whatever the reason, consumers agree that this is one sweet bud.

Colorado hosts an annual Cannabis Wedding Expo, in Lafayette. Their website says: “The Expo gives couples the chance to engage with progressive traditional wedding vendors and specialty cannabis brands to learn how to incorporate cannabis into their wedding day in classy and tasteful ways.” We’re still waiting to see (and taste) a wedding cake made with Wedding Cake cannabis. Anyone?!

Wedding Cake Effects

Wedding Cake’s dominant terpenes include beta-caryophyllene, beta-myrcene, alpha-humulene, and limonene. In addition to being analgesic, due to its anti-inflammatory properties, some who suffer from symptoms of IBS find this strain effective for gastrointestinal relief. However, the Wedding Cake marijuana strain tends to promote eating, which can be beneficial for patients who may be trying to gain weight. Some users combat insomnia with this sedative strain, due to its myrcene content. This cultivar’s terpene profile combines to create a state of relaxation, good for treating anxiety, oftentimes offering a mood boost. Always start slowly when trying new strains.

Growing Wedding Cake

Wedding Cake seeds produce short, sturdy plants which yield dense, pungent indica-style buds. Deep green in color, this cultivar may reveal purple undertones interwoven with golden-orange hairs. Under optimal conditions, this strain will yield around 20 ounces per plant.

“Kiss your Fitbit steps goodbye, because this strain will put you down like a dart to Will Ferrell's jugular.“
