Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021

Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021

June means it’s Pride Month, so we’ve made a list of awesome cannabis companies with LGBTQ+ owners for you to go find and support!

Pride Month is a beautiful occasion and a moment ripe for bad actors to flourish.

On the one hand, honoring the traumatic, inspiring legacy of our LGBTQ+ brothers, sisters, and gender non-conforming siblings is a beloved and important annual event. But as some corporations elect to embrace the rainbow flag in lieu of actually doing anything of consequence, there’s also a general wariness from those who worry Pride’s “mainstreaming” has at last reached a crisis point.

That’s true of cannabis as well, where, despite the well-proven ties between the birth of the medical marijuana movement and the HIV/AIDS crisis, some weed companies continue to come up empty when it comes to Pride. And then there are those doing great work, like the limited-edition Pride rainbow gummies now available from PLUS — with a portion of the proceeds going to San Francisco’s Transgender, Gender-Variant & Intersex Justice Project.

This awesome nonprofit has a stated goal “to further their mission of ending the human rights abuses committed against Black and brown TGI people inside of California prisons, jails, detention centers and beyond” and is a great benefactor to have chosen.

But obviously, supporting the LGBTQ+ community isn’t something that should only happen once a year, so while there are more cool items like the PLUS Pride gummies hitting shelves this June, we’ve decided to offer a twist on the usual concept. Below, we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite queer-owned cannabis companies for you to support during Pride (as well as the rest of the year too)! Read on and happy Pride!

CANN

Title: Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021 (Cann cans)Who knew drinking cannabis could be so awesome? Well, thanks to cannabis beverage makers Cann, this summer is shaping up to be one dominated by their truly delicious THC-infused seltzers. Founded by Jake Bullock and Luke Anderson in 2019, Cann is also as proudly queer as it gets. Most recently, this took the form of a Pride month campaign featuring “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 13 winner Symone and fellow drag queen royalty Gigi Goode and Rosy Thorn in a nod to glamorous ‘90s Versace ads. Available in delectable flavors like blood orange cardamom, cranberry sage, and ginger lemongrass, Cann is sure to be a go-to drink choice for many Pride revelers this year.

RECREATE

Title: Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021 (ReCreate products)Gummies, tinctures, and chocolates – oh my! The team at ReCreate makes them all, utilizing formulas that combine THC, CBD, and Ayurvedic botanicals and adaptogens like turmeric, lemon balm, and lion’s mane. If the brand sounds familiar, that’s because it was founded by the legendary Stanley Brothers, who are also responsible for the exceptionally popular Charlotte’s Web strain. One of the siblings, Austin Stanley, is also a proud member of the queer community, which inspired ReCreate’s latest offering: a limited-edition collection of Pride gummies and beverages. $1 from each Pride product sold will also be donated to either One Colorado or Equality California: two local nonprofit partner organizations focused on advocating for LGBTQ+ civil rights.

STONE ROAD

Title: Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021 (Stone Road prerolls)If you want quality cannabis, trust a queer, sustainable farmer like Lex Corwin to deliver. Corwin’s Stone Road is a Nevada City-based, premium flower and pre-roll company utilizing flower cultivated on a small Northern California farm. They also have a knack for stylish packaging and great tasting bud. With an emphasis on both affordability and accessibility within the cannabis industry, Stone Road is proof in action of what commitment to a cause actually looks like. And for Pride month, they are once more putting their money where their mouth is by committing to donate 10% of all profits they make during June to the LGBTQ Freedom Fund, which pays bail to secure the safety and liberty of individuals in U.S. jails and immigration facilities.

BESITO

Title: Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021 (Besito prerolls)Sometimes a name says it all. In the case of Besito, perhaps it’s more of a translation. Named for the Spanish for “little kiss,” Besito began as Maggie Connors’ line of single-use, hexagonal vape pens. Dosed at a ratio of 2:1 THC to CBD, the unique shape of Besito’s signature product ensures it doesn’t roll away when you need it most. The queer-owned, L.A.-based business has subsequently expanded its offerings to also include 1 gram prerolls and 10-packs of mini prerolls as well. Most recently, there was news that Besito had been purchased by San Francisco’s SPARC – another queer-owned, cannabis operator. With Connors now set to join SPARC’s executive team as VP of Brand and Marketing, the brand is quickly becoming a powerhouse of LGBTQ+ talent.

SONDER

Title: Bloom & Oil’s Guide to Pride 2021 (Sonder Cheers Queers Space Crystals)Did someone say cannabis plus Pop Rocks? That’s more or less the sales pitch with Sonder, a brand owned by the wife and wife team of Faun Chapin and M Paradise. Operating out of Santa Cruz, this vape oil maker is actually best known for another item on their menu: Sonder’s Space Crystals. These fizzy candy confections meld the mechanics of Pop Rocks with a THC-infused formula that incredibly works as both edible or sublingual. And fortunately, just in time for Pride 2021, Sonder is debuting the fourth flavor in its Space Crystals line: Cheers Queers. Joining the already available Stoned Fruit, Peachy Passion, and Pineapple Party, it’s hard to think of a better cannabis treat to pair with your Pride merriment!
