Using the Firefly 2 Vaporizer
Dynamic Convection Across Wide Range of Temperatures
One of the things we love about the Firefly 2 vaporizer is the signature glass window that lets you watch your herb slowly cook before your eyes. Getting a good draw takes a bit of finagling for first-time users. Once you get the hang of it, though, extraction is pretty smooth.
In terms of temperature control, you’ll need access to a smartphone if you plan on using anything other than the default setting. In the Firefly app, you can choose from six heat profiles: Five of them are designed for dry herbs, offering a range of 170-215°C, and there’s one option for concentrates that cooks at 260°C. So, although the Firefly 2’s heat settings aren’t 100% customizable, the pre-packaged settings do work well for most users.
Don’t Wait Just Vape
The Firefly 2 vaporizer has a fairly unique vapor path that starts up instantly. The vapor is drawn out of the bowl and channeled to the filtered mouthpiece. Because of this design (and the lack of a filter on the chamber itself), you definitely want to go with a more coarsely ground herb. If you grind it too finely, you may end up inhaling a few bits, which is certainly not the best way to enjoy your herb.
From the start of our Firefly 2 vaporizer review, it was clear that getting the best results would take some effort. That meant using a bit of trial and error to eventually find the right balance of grind consistency, packing method, and draw technique. You’ll also need long, smooth draws (up to 30 seconds) in order to get great clouds. It sounds like a lot, but it’s nothing you can’t master within a few weeks.
Cleaning the Firefly 2 Vaporizer
Because of its unique vapor path, and because the chamber doesn’t have a top filter, the Firefly 2 can gum up pretty quickly. This means you should expect to clean it after every few uses. While that may sound tedious, don’t count this device out yet. Overall, the Firefly 2 is one of the quickest and easiest portables to clean on the market today. Any mess on the unit mops up in seconds with an alcohol wipe or a paper towel with isopropyl. And as for the mouthpiece screen, just give it a dip in some isopropyl, and it’ll clean off in seconds.
Fast Battery Charge
You’ll likely get around four to six sessions per charge. If you’re going to use the Firefly 2 beyond that, a full charge takes just 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can carry around the backup battery that comes free with the device. Problem solved.
Unique Features of the Firefly 2 Vaporizer
Several features make this vaporizer stand out. The first is the size, shape, and weight. You can tell from the way it feels in your hand that it’s well-crafted, sturdy, and dependable. The way you load the device is pretty unique too. The entire front panel is held on by magnets embedded in the vaporizer. Just give the cover a pull, and you have full access to the insides. Beyond that, watching the bowl heat up and glow red behind the glass is not only mesmerizing to watch, it’s the inspiration for the Firefly name.
Standout Features: Two Year Warranty & Extra Battery
The Firefly 2 comes with a full two-year warranty. Aside from warranty, one thing you’ll definitely like about the Firefly 2 is just how well-equipped it is. The device comes in a beautiful box that houses a charging cradle, USB charging cord, triple pack of concentrate pads, cleaning kit with alcohol wipes, two picks and a brush, and, drumroll please…. an extra battery. This is a nice addition that you’ll see praised in pretty much every Firefly 2 vaporizer review out there.
Firefly vs. Firefly 2
If you’re familiar with the original Firefly, you’ll love the improvements made in the Firefly 2. The Firefly 2 vaporizer is about half the weight of the original, which at the time was one of the heaviest on the market. The new version also has dual touch sensors instead of a separate power button. Other than that, the design and performance is pretty much the same.
The Final Verdict
The Firefly 2 gets top marks for its stylish and rugged design, quick heat time, and for just being so easy to clean. It also produces some pretty great flavor. Given the learning curve, particular draw style, and lack of customizable settings, this may not be the right fit for everyone. But for those seasoned vapers looking for great flavor on demand, this could be a match made in heaven.
