Puffco Peak Vaporizer Overview
The Puffco Peak is a portable vaporizer designed for dabbing oils and concentrates. Crafted from borosilicate glass, ceramic, stainless steel, and silicone, the Puffco Peak vaporizer is uniquely designed to be used specifically with concentrates, setting it aside from other vaporizers on the market.
The first-of-its-kind portable dab rig, the Puffco Peak sets the bar for its competitors quite high. Featuring durable construction, intuitive controls, and a range of settings, the Puffco Peak makes dabbing concentrates an easier and more portable endeavor.
Extraction & Temperature Control
Designed to replace traditional torch-and-nail methods of dabbing, the Puffco Peak utilizes a thermal-banger style atomizer with a ceramic bowl to heat concentrates to the perfect temperature. The atomizer features no coils, glues, or plastics, ensuring every hit is as clean as possible, while the ceramic bowl makes for even heating and reduces temperature fluctuation.
With four different temperature settings between 450-600°F, users can cater their dab to be as small and flavorful or as big and cloudy as they like. The Peak also features Sesh-mode, which maintains a steady temperature and allows for easy sharing.
The Peak also features a speedy warmup time of roughly 20 seconds, compared with the average three minutes of other vaporizers. At 20 seconds, the Peak is ready nearly as quickly as a torch and nail.
Vapor Production & Airflow
Enjoying the Puffco Peak is as simple as turning on the unit and waiting for it to heat up. In only 20 seconds, the LED display will let you know that your Peak is ready to be enjoyed. Once hot, the ceramic chamber features a level of airflow uncommon to most concentrate vaporizers. This increased airflow allows for big, voluminous clouds. The Peak’s water-cooled chamber is designed to keep the heat away from your lips, making for cool, tasty dabs.
Cleaning The Puffco Peak
The Puffco Peak is relatively easy to clean, as there are really only two parts that need to be maintained. The glass cone on the top can be removed and cleaned like a bong; that is, warm water, some isopropyl rubbing alcohol when necessary, and perhaps a bit of salt.
Additionally, the ceramic bowl can be cleaned with a small amount of isopropyl rubbing alcohol and gentle wiping. The Peak includes cotton swabs for this purpose.
Finally, the entire unit should be run through a test cycle before using after cleaning.
Pros & Cons
- More portable and shareable than traditional dab rigs
- No hot surfaces, making for a safer dabbing experience
- Intuitive and easy-to-use, perfect for first-time dabbers
- Four temperature settings and Sesh-mode
- Limited battery life (~30 dabs)
- Long charging time (2.5 hours)
- Single-use functionality
The battery life of the Puffco Peak is decent, provided care is taken to turn off the unit. At a full charge, the battery can be expected to last for roughly 30 dabs. If left on continuously, you can expect to get about 30 minutes of battery life from the Peak. It does have an auto-shutoff feature, however, in case you forget to turn it off. The battery takes about three hours to reach a full charge.
Among its unique features, the Puffco Peak’s standout is its water-cooled chamber, the first of its kind on a portable vaporizer. Aside from looking really cool, the chamber actually cools your dabs the way a standard glass rig would, making the Peak the perfect traveling dab companion.
The Puffco Peak also benefits from intelligent temperature calibration, automatically adjusting heating times if your bowl is still hot. The addition of this technology makes for an even more enjoyable dabbing session.
Warranty & Accessories
The Puffco Peak is protected by a one-year warranty on all parts, provided the purchase is made through an authorized retailer. The Peak’s atomizer features a one-month warranty, though replacements can easily be ordered should the user experience problems after a month.
The Peak comes complete with a charging block and cable, a ceramic bowl, carb cap (with tether), dab tool, cotton swabs, and a unique carrying case designed to hold it all in one convenient location.
Comparison: Puffco Peak vs Focus V Carta
After hitting the market in 2016, the Puffco Peak was quickly replicated by competitors, the most comparable being the Focus V Carta vaporizer. While many of the Carta’s top-selling points came from mimicking the Peak, there remain a few points that set the two apart.
The most notable difference between the two is the Carta’s ability to vaporize dry herb. While this is a significant selling point, it’s not a deal-breaker. The Puffco Peak makes no claims of dry herb versatility, and as such, remains dedicated solely to concentrates.
Another notable difference is the price of accessories. Both base models include a complete kit and are thus very comparable at $249. The biggest price difference comes about once it is time to begin making replacements and repairs to your rig. A replacement Puffco atomizer, for example, will run you $33.99, while a replacement Carta atomizer costs $60. On the other hand, a replacement glass top for a Peak will run $79.99, while the Focus offers replacement glass for the Carta for only $40.
The Puffco Peak vaporizer is a unique and exciting way to dab your concentrates. Its increased portability, intuitive controls, and multiple settings make it an excellent addition to any concentrate lover’s repertoire. The Puffco Peak is the perfect tool for dabbing away from your home base.
